Remembering on Memorial Day
/These photos from last year's Memorial Day at the Chattanooga National Cemetery give me mixed emotions. 🇺🇸 We went as a family to honor those who gave their lives so that we may be free. 📷 We love taking pictures and are amazed as we reflect on these memories. Little did we know that sometime later we would be crossing paths during memorable and sometimes unfortunate circumstances with some of these well-known men and their staff. 🇺🇸 One of them, Navy Captain Mickey McCamish has been a great source of inspiration and encouragement during our time in Chattanooga. In his speech last year, he spoke about the hardships and lack of appreciation our Vietnam War vets like him went through when they came back from fighting. They got spat on and were hated. There wasn't any celebrating or thanking them for their sacrifice and service. How heartbreaking that was, and we are so thankful that it is different today as he pointed out. Captain McCamish has become like family to us like so many have been in Chattanooga -- even visiting Tim when he was hospitalized a few months ago with his pulmonary embolism incident. 💐 Lastly, it doesn't really show, but, beside the singers, are Gold Star Mothers and Wives. If you don't know what that is, please take the time to learn how these women have lost their husbands or children for the freedoms that so many in America enjoy but sadly sometimes take for granted. #memorialday
